What do you need to prepare for your photo session?
Here are my tried and true tips for being ready for your photo session.
Things to think about: what do you want from your session? Are you looking for something traditional, adventurous, unique? Think about what it is you want from your session, and then look to the internet for inspiration! Pinterest, Instagram and Google are great places to go for inspiration. I am always open to suggestions and Ideas, and I will in fact ask you if you have ideas you have seen that you want to try!
Take NOTES! Write down ideas you want. Think about clothing and accessories. Solid colors and 3/4 or long sleeve generally work best for solo portraits, and are buildable with accessories. Subtle patterns work as well, as long as it isn’t too busy or distracting, depending on the kind of session we are going for. Bring me your ideas and we can discuss what will work best during the free consult! Bring me photos! We will go over everything from clothes, accessories, hair and makeup if you’d like!
Bring PROPS! What makes you who you are? Hobbies and interests are always fun to showcase in portraits. I love working with props! We have some here at the studio, but definitely bring your own!
RELAX!! This is your session for YOU. Let me do the hard work of posing and making you shine! You just get to relax and enjoy the process! I recommend taking as long as long as possible to get ready, take a shower or bath before your session, pamper yourself with all of your favorite things! Give yourself plenty of time to prepare for your session and take a little time out for yourself! I know it’s not always easy, but if you can just take that extra bit of time, it will make a huge difference in how you feel for your session!
Bring a snack, and water! Believe it or not, an hour doesn’t seem like much but the nervous energy and adrenaline can make you hungry! Bring a little something to hold you over!
Be ready to have FUN! I love to have fun in the studio and strive to create a relaxed atmosphere. A portrait session should be about fun, not stress!
TRUST THE PROCESS! It may not always feel like I got the shot you want, but trust the process! Angles and lighting can work wonders! I can take several images of the same pose and make them look entirely different.
